Is bluesky about to take twitter down? and other interesting topics...
1. What to know about Bluesky, as Dril and AOC join the new Twitter alternative.
Now this is probably the only legitimate contender to take Twitter out. Bluesky is the Jack Dorsey-led alternative to Twitter, and it offers a significant evolution in social media design.
“Bluesky runs on a “decentralized” system, meaning people will eventually be able to use the technology behind it to create their own applications and communities, with rules and algorithms customized to their liking. The goal is to create a system where no single person or algorithm reigns over what users experience.”
In my opinion, I think this is something to really keep an eye out on. Though Twitter’s network effects are strong, people are clamoring for an alternative. Most people are there because they hate Elon, but there’s also something fundamentally positive and encouraging about seeing a system where no single person, company, or government entity can control YOUR experience. 2. The Other Fashion Innovation
This piece from “The Sociology of Business” by Ana Andjelic is a great writeup covering Telfar’s recent move to live pricing. The idea is pretty amazing,
“For those who missed it, Telfar LIVE works like this: a product assortment drops at its wholesale price; every second, the price increases, until an item sells out. Once an item is sold out, the price it was at stays as its retail price.
In a reversal of the Veblen effect, demand of a Telfar product leads to its lower price - and greater accessibility.”
3. Brenda's Business with Jerry Lorenzo
A nice interview with Fear of God founder Jerry Lorenzo after his beautiful show at the Hollywood Bowl. The show was awesome, I personally like the clothes a lot, and though one could say that he bites Rick Owens too much, it seems like he’s evolving his taste with these fits that incorporate sharp, clean Italian tailoring for some really pleasing looks. It’s as if Rick made stuff that was super wearable. Anyways, read his interview with 032c here.
4. People are decorating their houses with fake books
Sorry, this one is actually really stupid and pointless to read but it’s funny nonetheless. Basically, people have started to decorate their houses with fake books… We are living in a time of severe moral and intellectual decay
Anna Shiwlall, the owner of 27 Diamonds Interior Design in Anaheim, Calif., said that she frequently makes use of fake books, especially if they are “of certain sizes or colors that coordinate with the room or if we want the client to feel a portrayal of a well-traveled life.”
“Not too many people read physical books now, but we are reminded of certain things when we’re surrounded by them,” Ms. Shiwlall said. “The smell of it, the stories it brings or the colors that make the room pop.”
What a joke. Good rage bait from the NYT as always.
